El ling\u00fcista\u00a0<strong>Joan Coromines<\/strong>\u00a0explica a la seva gran obra, el\u00a0<em>Diccionari etimol\u00f2gic i complementari de la llengua catalana<\/em>, que la paraula\u00a0<strong><em>mona\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>prov\u00e9 de la paraula llatina\u00a0<strong><em>munda<\/em><\/strong>, que \u00e9s el plural de\u00a0<em>mundus<\/em>, que significa\u00a0<strong>panera adornada i plena d&#8217;objectes\u00a0(especialment coques i pastissos)\u00a0 que els romans oferien a la deessa Ceres durant mes d&#8217;abril<\/strong>.
